Educating the educators
In this section, list courses/modules where I have led and educated the educators in the development of courses/modules. I say this because in simple terms, it makes sense and is easily understandable by a wide audience.
I have expanded the teaching repertoire of colleagues by developing their academic, digital and media literacies through a mixture of teaching/coaching/mentoring by acting as a critical friend to colleagues. I draw on a mixture of ABC Learning Design and Universal Design for Learning principles. The result is that the educators have a better, deeper and expanded understanding of creating courses for blended and/or fully online learning which is fundamentally different to creating/delivering teaching in person.

Teaching English as a foreign language
Prior to working in universities, I taught English as a foreign language, or EFL for short. Specifically, I taught a range of levels and courses primarily to adults. These experiences cumulatively laid the foundations for my career as an educator and teacher.
I have taught EFL in China, Russia and with shorter roles in Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
Shanghai, China
From 2001 to 2002, I taught EFL to pre-intermediate and intermediate level learners.
Moscow, Russia
From 2005 to 2009, I taught EFL to learners on the following CERF levels:
A1 and A2 - i.e. the ‘basic user’ levels which includes elementary and pre-intermediate levels
B1 and B2 - i.e. the ‘independent user’ levels which includes intermediate and upper intermediate levels
C1 and C2 - i.e. the ‘proficient user’ levels which includes advanced and professional levels
I also taught general and more specialist Business English courses and English for law.
